So much for Abbott in Pleasant Prairie. (click here)

A lot of hope (click here)

I don't know this will have any effect on Pleasant Prairie and Abbott. Maybe a new facility, as opposed to the "sprawling lake county" facilities, will reduce costs more?

John, you're right, of course. But leave it to the perpetual gloom-and-doom crowd to always put a negative spin on news stories. I wonder why Mike and Alex don't want Abbott here? Could it be that they want to try to have Alex elected so that he can "save the day"?

Spare me.

You two really think that just ADD will be affected? You think building new buildings is a cost savings now that three of buildings will be open? (two that are newer). How does 1000 US workers loosing their jobs a positive when they are sent overseas? Alex has his own blog and has nothing to do with mine.

"So much for Abbott in PP" may be a bit presumptuous,,,,but far from gloom-and-doom and neagtive spin. Seems fairly accurate given these current financial times and given this recent article. However perhaps instead, "So much for Abbott in PP...ANY TIME SOON" would have been more accurate.

JR has a point, there is a tipping-point where investing in old buildings and old technologies is too costly compared to building new. Eventually Abbott will see themselves reaching this tipping-point and unless they have the room (or can demo and make the room) down there, buidling new in PP seems an inevitable viable option.

However, it seems to me to be a large gamble to guess as to when it will happen. I doubt that Abbott even knows yet exactly when they would make such a move. Seems to me that they are merely positioning themselves for this eventual possibility.

The article states 1000 "worldwide" job cuts, not necessarily US. Definitely not all in Abbott Park either. They specifically mention a CA facility.

Maybe a smaller, newer, state of the art facility with even fewer employees , lower taxes, etc would make for more profitability???? It's a line of action that has worked for several companies in similar situations...regardless of industry.
