ULine--Welcome to Pleasant Prairie

Nice to see a new company coming to Pleasant Prairie and actually having plans in place. No secretive meetings or bravado required; just this is where we are going to build and what we are going to build. Didn't need to involve Village at all as they worked through Developer. The owners mention Abbott as having an influence on their decision; maybe they can get Abbott to commit to some real plans?

Are you really this dense?

We all welcome ULine. But you can't compare ULine and Abbott (no disrespect to ULine). When a 22 billion dollar company is considering moving its entire corporate hq (and that's an assumption -- I don't know what they are going to move here), that move has a major negative economic impact on Illinois...just like it has a major POSITIVE impact on Pleasant Prairie.

Illinois will pull out all the stops to keep Abbott there. So you want all of the negotiations to be public so that Illinois politicians and press can beat up on them, and try to shame them into staying? You have obviously never run a business, because those kind of decisions are CONFIDENTIAL until announced to the public -- on the company's timeline, not the Village's.

Honestly, you cannot have ever worked in a position of authority or responsibility in a large company if you truly think Abbott is going to disclose its plans to its competitors, its current taxing authorities, and its current hometown until all is settled.

I'll tell you what...if you don't like how the Village Board and Village employees are running things, VOTE EM OUT! At least have the courage to run for office yourself and make changes happen. This petty bitching and moaning about you not knowing what is going on says more about your bloated ego than it does about the Village.

By all means, ask questions. But if they are not answered, there's a darn good reason for it -- it's called PROPRIETARY INFORMATION.

Let our folks do their jobs!

Here we go again with the "if you don't like it" BS then run for office crap. Get over yourself. "Let our folks do their jobs!" Seems they weren't even involved but like you, they like to take the credit. I guess Uline is much smarter than Abbott and found a way to get things done without all the public BS.

"VOTE EM OUT! At least have the courage to run for office yourself and make changes happen." I guess 69% of Village residents who voted against all three referendums would have to run, right? I like your blog. Really gets one persons goat doesn't it. What a hoot!

It's you who is showing his/her ignorance. ULine submitted plans to the Village to expand its building, and they were approved with little fanfare.

Where were you during all those Plan Commission meetings, Board meetings, and construction work? Probably watching Alex's video. Zzzzzzzz.

Thanks for the compliments. I have tried to keep this Blog open and uncensored. I did censor early on as someone was making completely off the wall comments but decided to let people have their say; unlike another blog. I know some will disagree with my comments but too bad. I don't force anyone to have to read my blog or attend meetings or watch or listen to videos/sound recordings in order for people to be involved. If meeting attendance was a criteria to be involved, then there would be only four people allowed to ever make comments or run for office. Anomonous should be happy people even discuss Village but I guess they have nothing better to do but read blogs.

Gotta love a blogger that complains when people read his blog. LOL

VOTE EM OUT! We already did that once, remember? I guess you don't as you keep demonstrating your ignorance and one sided thinking.

It's a sign that the Village is doing something right when the left-wing Kenosha News-Comrade comes out with another anti-business editorial.

Village is doing something right -- because the Kenosha News is left?

Great logic.

Do you pay any attention to who the players are in this matter of poaching businesses from Illinois.

The leftist Kenosha News is opposed to leftist trio of Doyle, Steinbrink and Pollocoff?

IL is not going to just sit around and watch WI taxpayer dollars being spent to entice IL companies move north. And on top of that its against leftist IL Gov. Blago!

Why are tax incentives necessary in order to get companies like Uline and Abbott to come here anyway? If it is that great then incentives should not be necessary.

The leftist Kenosha News in the last couple of weeks published a blurb about how the manufacturing jobs in WI have dropped below 500,000 for the first time in years. Why is that if WI is such a great place to relocate. Or is it the incentive that really is the carrot. I wonder what kind of carrots were provided to Abbott and Uline when they located in IL.

Is IL now going to provide incentives to companies like Snap-On, Jockey, etc to come to IL. Everyone has their price and this kind of further behavior could set up a war between the leftist Gov's Blago and Doyle. Maybe Abbott is waiting for a good reason!

Also to 'dense' -- first comment.

I think you are dense not this blogger. Are you so dense as to think that Abbott is not just trying to work out the best deal for them.

If Abbott is considering a corp HQ move as you suggest, don't you think they would use that threat as stick to beat up IL with. Why on earth would they do this all is secret as you suggest so that in the end its a big surprise for IL? They will give IL all the chances in the world to keep the deal sweet right there.

In terms of keeping their competition in the dark, do you think their competitors are really that clueless as to not know that Abbott has purchased the land in Pleasant Prairie? Do you think their competitors were that dense as to not know when Abbott bought elsewhere and didn't actually move?

The author of this blog knows more than you will ever know. You on the otherhand betray your 'dense-ity and lack of big picture thinking.

I believe access to I-94, visibility, and location between Chicago and Milwaukee play an even bigger role in Abbott's decision. All the Local and State incentives are just an added caveat.

I live in Pleasant Prairie and work at Uline (Waukegan location, not LakeView).

I, for one, will enjoy the 8-minute commute to work instead of 45 minutes of gridlock on Rt. 41 every morning.

I asked my boss why the decision was made to move north. He said:

1. Lower corp and property taxes.
2. Higher quality of life.
3. Higher quality of new employees.

You're right, Uline is no Abbott. But, we get things done a lot faster than the big boys. That's why we'll be breaking ground this fall.
