From January 7th, 2008 Village Board meeting. Comments from Trustee #3. Has there been any movement on this? I think this is definitely a great idea and much needed to enhance interactions between Village People and residential property owners. Just not sure of format as if more than one trustee present, I believe it would constitute an official quorum, but they have had special meetings like this in past with individual HOAs/POAs. I haven't heard any more about this at any of the Board meetings since this was first proposed.

While a great idea, I can't imagine the number of HOA/POA in the Village. I would suspect it's over 100, and issues would be too specific. How would you propose it be kept generic?
I think they would all be need to be handled on an individual basis, due to specific concerns. I couldn't imagine the time involved in this, nor a Village Trustee/administrator willing to devote 100+ hours a year (at 1 hour/ea per year) to this if done with each HOA/POA individually. These meetings normally take on a personality of their own, and are rarely just an hour...meaning more time than even I allotted. These time constraints, even being generous, make this an extremely difficult task.
BTW, I still haven't heard from you regarding my email.
They could do it like a Cafe meeting as they have been doing for the Village downtown. Have people submit questions or concerns ahead of time and address general questions. Specific questions could probably be addressed individually or ahead of time but let everyone see. Or they could post answers on the Village website incase it comes up in another HOA/POA later. Besides, who does Village represent? The residents. If they don't have time for us, then who are they spending their time with?
You dolt. I want less government, not more. When our HOA has a problem, we'll take it up with the Board. Until then, they can leave us to govern ourselves!

I understand your point, but I see where the "more government" point of view comes from on this. If you are the HOA, the majority of issues could be handled in house. The individual ones (such as Tobin Creek's mailbox problem) and the like, are dealt with in cooperation with the Village.
If this cafe were to offer retention pond management alternatives, landscaping concepts, etcetera...it would be more like an open house for vendors. The more involved you made this cafe, the more difficult it's going to be to organize.
Most HOA/POA are run democratically, meaning you (as a resident) have input as to who is a decision maker within that HOA/POA. Most issues are voted on by the residents, which allows for further input. The Village has interceded as needed, some with positive results (Tobin Creek) others not so much (Benz Estates).
I just see resources being better spent elsewhere, but that is just me.
More government is what we already have. Village decides on wording of covenants and by-laws and any changes have to be approved by Village. I don't think this would get out of hand but I don't believe one should wait until a bigger issue before talking with Village either. There are specific issues upcoming such as retention and detention pond recertifications (or certifications) that may require HOA's to dredge their ponds at HOA cost. Wouldn't you want to understand the process before it is thrust upon you? Wouldn't you want to start thinking about the costs associated and how you would pay for it? There are otehr grey areas where Village has one thing but HOA has another. I have been called by Werbie before due to complaints about dumping and I just feel some of this information would benefit all homeowners and POA/HOA Boards.
To anonymous, aren't all five current Board members Democrats?
Another issue that will affect Villager property owners is the new cable units that these cable companies can plop down anywhere they want in your yard right-of-way. Plan Commissioner John Braig has asked the Village staff to review and report back to Plan Commission and Village Board on what can be done to prevent an eyesore in your yard.
