We were already planning on new bikes for the family this year so this is great news. As one of my bicycle riding fanatical neighbors said, "they keep this up, I might have to retire here."

I went to the meeting last night and I gotta tell you watching the good ole boys talking about bike paths etc is like watching a video of John Bulishi talking about the virtues of moderation...you gots to be kidding me.
There wasn't anyone talking about the actual bike trail. Mike Polocoff and Monica Yuhas discussed the "educational support" offered by Bike Federation of Wisconsin and the bids. Your comments don't really make a lot of sense. Not based on what actually took place at the meeting last night.
Did anyone talk about the Kenosha County bike trail and their involvement in the process?
No Mike, not a word was said about the County Trail. Really not much of anything was said in regards to the Federation thing. Monicka made her comments about them "educating" about proper usage etc, come on really, how to use a bike path?
Sorry to be so synical but again these are the same blokes that were/are hell bent on putting motorized vehicles across the County Trail. These guys have about as much interest in bike paths as bipartisnship exists in DC.
As far as paths linking parks etc people that really like to ride bikes like to go places. A mile here or there doesn't get it done. That being said a system of linked trails/bike lanes that could actually get someone to say the Lake front to say Lake Geneva, Whitewater, Milwaukee, Madison, etc safely and places in between might be something the Federation could help with. What I'm saying is successful bike systems that link other towns/counties/states would be cool. It would require cooperation between governing bodies. I would remain sceptical that this could happen.
oh I forgot, you have to remember the Michael was the one that said no actual bike lane was going to be made but he was going to put up some bike route signs, I think on 89th.
These guys definetly need Bike Federation help. I hope they can help. Something a little more substantial than telling averyone to put their helmets on.
I'm still curious as to what triggered their interst in the subject to begin with, it's obvious even to the casual observer that the good ole boys don't have any real interest in the subject.
I certainly hope their interest is not to gain control of the County bike trails so they can run more roads, or full roads with no gates, across the bike trail.
Might be a stretch but I remember contacting the Federation back then and they seemed at the time to be in an appeasement mode on the subject, kind of you should learn how to get along with local officials.
It wouldn't surprise me that the powers that be would be harboring some hopes into that direction.
Again I would have to say that these guys embracing bike paths/pedestrian right of ways is a complete 180 out from their normal OP.
So the Board approves a contract with a consultant that provides the most planning effort made to date to develop a bike and ped plan and the consensus is "what about the county", "they're good ole boys", "they will have motorized vehicles on the path", "I want a path to Madison", "I'm skeptical", "they're not really interested", "the Federation was appeasing them".
With all of this insightful input I am surprised the Board funded it and awarded a contract.
I agree with last comments; the Board doesn't have a clue on what they are doing. All for show. Nothing will happen. Look how long it took for 85th Street extension (and how crappy is that?). Good questions raised but Board will never address. Also, why is Village spending taxpayer money on RecPlex that is a private enterprise that supposedly uses no taxpayer dollars? Big mistake.
